Abstract

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of adverse fetal outcomes in deliveries with meconium

stained liquor at term. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This research constitutes a descriptive study

aimed at investigating the association between meconium-stained amniotic fluid in term pregnancies

and adverse fetal outcomes. The study was carried out at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar (HMC), spanned from September 2020 to March 2021. A total

of 130 participants were included in the study as the sample size RESULTS: Among the cases

observed, 40(30.8%) exhibited abnormal fetal heart rates, while the remaining 90(69.2%) demonstrated

normal heart rate. Low Apgar score was observed in 26(20%) of newborns, indicating that they needed

immediate medical attention and support for a smooth transition to life outside the womb. On the other

hand, 104(80%) of newborns scored well on the Apgar assessment. CONCLUSION: Our study has

concluded that meconium stained liquor is associated to increased perinatal morbidity.
