Abstract

Objective: To compare between conventional and minimally invasive dynamic hip screw in treatment of intertrochanteric femur fracture. Methods: This was an observational prospective cohort study, conducted in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery Unit-1, Chandka Medical College Hospital Larkana from Oct 2016 to Sep 2017. A total of 80 adult patients were recruited or invited to participate in this study. These patients were having intertrochanteric femoral fractures that was fixed and treated with two approaches i.e. in half of the patients the conventional (open) technique (CDHS) was applied and given a category of I and half were with minimally invasive technique (MIDHS ) and grouped in category II. All the patients that were treated by applying the aforementioned techniques were given in to two groups and their distribution among groups were almost similar with regards to morbidity. age and Hb level. The exclusion criteria include all the patients with heart and renal disease whereas all the patients of both genders with intertrochanteric femoral fractures were included in this study Results: A total of SO patients were recruited. The mean age of the participants was 68.29+11.13. In this study there was a total of 55(68.75%) females and 25(31.5" o t were males. We did not observe any intraoperative death in group I even after one month but there were 3 causalities reported after six month of operation. While being 0% in the group II. The mortality measure at 12 months was 5 in group 1 and one in group if Conclusion: The minimally invasive DHS technique yield better outcomes in intertrochanteric fractures than the conventional DHS in elder populations in terms of reduced blood loss and related parameters(operative time, hospital staysecovery time and bone union).
